The Bruijn's brush-turkey, Aepypodius bruijnii and the vine, Sicyos alba are both rare endemic species surviving in remnants of their original habitats. For a time, both of these species were thought extinct but were later re-found. The brush turkey is from New Guinea, and the vine, known as ‘anunu locally, is from the island of Hawaii.
